Title: Environmental Director

Wilson Construction Company (Wilson) has an immediate opening in the Environmental Department (Department) at our headquarters near Portland, Oregon, for a self-motivated Environmental Director with a positive, team-oriented outlook.  Wilson specializes in the design and construction of electric utility infrastructure across the United States.

The Department is tasked with ensuring implementation of project environmental requirements during construction, establishing budgets, and tracking costs.  It is responsible for reviewing associated environmental permits, plans, and specifications for electrical utility projects and analyzing environmental laws, regulations, and policy initiatives for their implications on construction operations, as well as company facilities. The Environmental Director reports to the Vice President.

The Director must excel in leadership and mentorship, have a high level of communication and collaboration skills, and in-depth knowledge of the industry. The position requires the ability to look at the “big picture” and how it impacts all areas of the company. The person must show experience successfully implementing processes.
This person must have demonstrable experience with environmental permitting and planning, as well as the construction of electrical utility projects, preparing complex written proposals, and knowledge of state and federal environmental planning processes and Federal Energy Commission (FERC) Order 1000.

The duties of the Environmental Director include:
Leading a team of 10 employees.
Primary supervisor for Environmental Managers located throughout the country.
Hiring and managing staff of environmental professionals; ensuring staff receives appropriate technical training and field experience to perform their work.
Assist in planning workload and assignments for the team.
Attending tradeshows and conferences to market our environmental capabilities to customers.
Writing responses to requests for information (RFIs) to ensure Wilson has an opportunity to bid the project.
Preparation and oversight of environmental estimates, proposals and work plans submitted with the construction proposal.
Communicating with VPs and Directors to facilitate and ensure coordination among departments in Wilson.
Managing Wilson’s corporate environmental strategy.
Developing/revising department policy and procedures.
Setting and managing Environmental Department budget.
Keeping up-to-date on environmental regulations to ensure compliance.

Master’s degree in Biology, Physical Science, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or other related field.
Minimum 10–15 years of work experience in a related/relevant field.
Ability to review construction plans and specifications to prepare estimate of costs.
Experience writing and preparing complex proposals.
Minimum 8 years’ experience in planning and permitting of electrical utility projects.
Ability to develop, implement, and ensure compliance of mitigation measures on construction projects.
Minimum 10 years of experience managing employees.
Availability to travel to projects as needed.
Availability to spend extended periods of time at project locations distant from the Canby office.
Ability to interact and effectively communicate with all levels of project management staff, field personnel, customers, and vendors.
High level of communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to present information to a large audience.
Demonstrate excellent follow through.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint).
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills including:
•       Coordinating, tracking, and meeting deadlines.
•       Following up with multiple parties.
•       Efficiently handling multiple tasks with competing priorities in a fluctuating workload.
•       Strong analytical thinking skills.
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
