Location: El Dorado Hills, CA
Wilson Construction Co. has an immediate opening for an Entry-level Field Safety Coordinator with a positive, can-do attitude. The Entry-level Field Safety Coordinator for Wilson is responsible for ensuring onsite compliance with all applicable Federal, State and Local safety regulations. The Entry-level Field Safety Coordinator reports to the Corporate Safety Director and coordinates their work activities with the Construction Superintendent and Project Manager.
Field Safety Coordinator Requirements:
· Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field or, a Safety Certification from a nationally recognized institution.
· Working knowledge of state and federal OSHA laws and regulations.
· Current First Aid and CPR certification.
· Must be able to work outside and travel.
· Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of staff and personality types.
· Desire and ability to learn the technical aspects of our industry.
· May be expected to walk and maneuver difficult terrain on job sites.
· Must have a valid state driver’s license.
This position will require travel and may include temporary relocation to project sites for the duration of that project
Field Safety Coordinator Responsibilities:
· Conduct safety orientations for new employees and former employees returning to the Company after an extended absence.
· Coordinate new hire drug testing.
· Hold tailboard safety meeting on a daily basis. During these meetings discuss job site accidents and near-misses, and give each employee the opportunity to offer safety suggestions.
· Administer the fall protection program and fit testing where applicable.
· Administer employee-training.
· Assist with records of employee safety training programs (rosters).
· Conduct at least one (1) complete safety inspection (audit) for each job site visited and file electronic reports. Monitor as many job sites as possible on a weekly basis to ensure that safe practices are followed and hazardous conditions are noted and eliminated.
· Review Wilson truck/equipment safety inspection reports.
· Investigate all incidents and near miss reports and file reports as required.
· Ensure that appropriate safety training is provided whenever new materials, equipment or processes are introduced to the workplace.
· Maintain a thorough knowledge of the injury and illness prevention program and all applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations pertaining to safety.
· Maintain a thorough knowledge of the hazards of every operation and how these hazards can be controlled.
· Review each task including a thorough survey of site conditions, analysis of potential hazards to be encountered, and a determination of the kind and extent of safeguards necessary to accomplish the work in a safe manner and/or train employees as appropriate.
· Make available all necessary personal protective equipment, job safety materials, first aid supplies, and emergency information.
· Implement immediate corrective action whenever noncompliance with the safety program or Federal, State or local laws or regulations is found.
· Meet with Superintendents /General Foremen and foremen on a periodic basis to review accidents, near-misses, disciplinary actions taken and safety suggestions offered from the field.
· Evaluate the safety performance of field employees and provide guidance and training where needed to improve performance and safety.
· Meet with Wilson management on periodic basis to discuss accidents and accident trends, employee safety performance, safety suggestions from the field, ways and means of improving the effectiveness of the safety program, and the agenda for scheduled training programs.
· Set a good example by following good safety practices in all activities—particularly with respect to personal protective equipment and clothing.
