Pacific Gas and Electric

10,000 Mile Undergrounding Program

Wilson Construction Company (Wilson) has participated in Pacific Gas & Electric’s (PG&E’s) “10K” program to wildfire harden ten thousand miles of distribution lines in Northern California since its inception. Since 2023, Wilson has hardened over 120 miles of lines and will continue to do so in the coming years. Due to the complex nature of the underground portion of the program, Wilson has full-time environmental field staff supporting this program.

Wilson coordinates with PG&E on every 10K project to support sensitive-species protections, cultural and biological monitoring, wetland specifications, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention (SWPPP) compliance. For distribution lines placed underground via trenching or horizontal directional drilling, Wilson’s environmental staff oversee monitoring requirements, spoils handling, and Best Management Practices (BMPs) for erosion and sediment control. Additionally, in 2024 Wilson performed all restoration and revegetation for an underground project in Auburn, California.

The environmental staff ensures that Wilson crews and all subcontractors stay compliant within this evolving program and acts as liaisons to PG&E and third-party inspectors and contractors. The Wilson environmental team has been quick to adapt to this ground-breaking program and our partnership with PG&E in this work has been growing positively for Wilson’s Northern California Division.
